IdeemaTec’s latest solar tracker, the safeTrack Horizon is clear evidence that solid technological advances

are driving the global solar tracker industry very rapidly, far more so than mere reductions in metal weight or parts. With over 40,000 systems installed worldwide since the first version release in 2007,…

SafeTrack Horizon technology from Ideematec Deutschland GmbH, based in Wallerfing, Germany, leads the global market for solar tracking systems. The SafeTrack Horizon is now the largest, and most economic singledrive tracker in the world, providing 100 kWp in PV power per tracker. Such high power density enables a much greater footprint coverage of a site, with up to 30% more utilization of the land. SafeTrack Horizon trackers can support 700 modules per tracker, and up to six tables per tracker. With a carrying capacity of up to 320 standard-sized modules per drive unit, in 2 portrait or 4 landscape orientation, or up to 945 thin-film modules, the versatility of design permits optimal layout. The versatile table and module configurations also allow for a flexible implementation of both 1,000 V and 1,500 V systems. The flexibility of the patented, fully-synchronous drive technology built into SafeTrack Horizon also permits coverage of much more irregular terrain, with the capability of scaling gradients of up to 36 degrees, double the industry standard. With an extension of 150 meters, or nearly 500 feet, far fewer motors are required for a system than with competing designs. Installation is also a faster, lower-cost exercise, with foundation post requirements 50% lower than other systems. Ideematec offers end-to-end solutions ranging from planning, through site analysis, to construction monitoring and commissioning. Operation of the SafeTrack Horizon is maximized by use of Ideematec’s KoRoNa monitoring software. Maintenance requirements are low since the highly-engineered design of the tracker also enables it to withstand winds of up to 180 miles per hour (290 km per hour). Ideematec’s long track record in the industry is another advantage brought to the SafeTrack Horizon offering. With due diligence analysis by Fichtner, Black & Veatch and TÜV, the SafeTrack Horizon has been financed under the scrutiny of the IFC and the World Bank.
