Limondale Solar Farm in Balranald, New South Wales is one of Australia’s largest Solar Farms. With an installed capacity of 349 MW, the system became fully operational 2021. This is the largest site IDEEMATEC has worked on in Australia, and our systems are ideally suited to the harsh weather conditions of the Australian countryside.
Australia is a key sales region for the IDEEMATEC, with more than 400 MW of trackers deployed across the country. The most notable installation is the 349MW Limondale Solar Farm in New South Wales, which is one of the largest solar parks in Australia, covering around 900 hectares, the equivalent of around 415 football fields. It became fully operational in 2021.
Construction on the system began in December 2018, with the plan to generate enough electricity to power up to 105,000 homes by the end of 2021. Installation of trackers began in April 2019, with the first tracker wired in May 2019 as installation continued at pace on the site.
The first electricity from the site was successfully exported to the grid in August 2019, with up to 500 people working on the site on peak days in 2019. January 2020 saw a record month with 47,000 PV panels being mounted to IDEEMATEC trackers in just one week.
Final tracker components were delivered to site in July 2020 and the final trackers were commissioned o site throughout August and September 2020. Remote commissioning support was provided from our head office in Neusling in November 2020. 2021 continued to see substantial progress, despite the challenges faced in a global pandemic. Full commercial operation was realized in the third quarter of 2021.
IDEEMATEC trackers are perfectly suited to utility-scale PV projects in Australia because they are uniquely designed to adapt to uneven terrain, reducing the need for additional grading or groundwork. They also can withstand the most severe weather conditions. Permanently locked tube technology ensures system stability, and a zero degree stow angle defends against extreme wind events. These innovations are proven to reduce downtime, increasing the profitability of the overall system.
